Cleanse-Three Day
I was a little intimidated by this one, not gonna lie.
A little backstory…
My wife and her friends went on a girls’ trip (a cruise to the Bahamas). When they got home, my wife announced that she and the ladies were doing a 3-Day Juice Cleanse to recover from the cruise.
Naturally, I made the questionable decision to join her.
My thinking was simple: it probably wouldn’t be fair for me to walk around the house eating pizza, burgers, tacos, and everything else God intended us to enjoy while she was drinking celery juice and reevaluating her life choices. Plus, I thought her chances of sticking with it would be a lot better if we did it together.
So we did.
All 3+ days. About 88 hours total (Reset to start an 18/6 Intermittent Fasting schedule).
Here’s how it went from my perspective. And somehow… I survived.
Day 1
We officially started the fast at midnight Saturday night and went to bed around 2 AM.
I woke up around 8 AM and kicked things off with the little yellow Wellness Shot about 10 minutes later. About 30 minutes after that, I had my first juice (the celery one). From there, I made my coffee and drank another juice every 2-4 hours, usually whenever hunger started knocking on the door.
The food noise was LOUD on Day 1, but manageable.
I think a lot of it was mental. I didn’t really know what to expect, and eating throughout the day is such a normal habit that your brain keeps reminding you, “Hey… aren’t we supposed to be eating something right now?”
One major lesson:
WATER IS YOUR FRIEND.
Drink it. Lots of it.
Made it through Day 1 without cheating and went to bed around 2 AM.
Day 2
This is where things got weird.
I woke up expecting Day 2 to be miserable.
Instead?
ZERO food noise.
Day 2 was easily the easiest day of the entire cleanse.
There was basically zero food noise. I wasn’t hungry, I wasn’t thinking about cheating, and I genuinely felt great.
And remember—this was Sunday. No work. No distractions. Just me hanging around the house all day with plenty of opportunity to convince myself that one little snack wouldn’t hurt.
But I didn’t.
And then came the ultimate test…
I WENT TO THE GROCERY STORE.
Y’all… I walked into a grocery store while fasting and only bought what was on the list.
Let me repeat that: I walked past candy. I walked past snacks. I walked past soda. And not once did a Snickers bar and Ginger Ale mysteriously jump into my cart.
That’s when I knew I had achieved some kind of higher level of consciousness.
I walked into the Lions’ Lair and came out victorious.
Now, I know what some of you are wondering…
But Jay! What About the Bathroom Situation?
Because apparently every conversation about a juice cleanse eventually gets here.
Day 1, the #2 activity was a little elevated, but nothing horrifying. Yes, you may go a few extra times, but you’re not going to be standing in the middle of Target and suddenly have to abandon your shopping cart and sprint toward the nearest restroom.
#1, however?
Yeah.
You’re going a LOT, especially if you’re pounding water as you should be.
By Day 2, everything pretty much leveled back out, and Day 3 was completely normal.
So, no horror stories here.
Day 2 = total success.
Bed around 2 AM.
Day 3
Up around 7 AM feeling great.
LAST DAY.
By this point, it honestly just felt like another normal day.
My mental game was locked in, my body felt fantastic, and work helped the day fly by.
Water. Juice. Coffee. Repeat.
Laser focused.
I did get a little bit of food noise later in the day, but I’m pretty sure that was self-inflicted because I spent a couple of hours looking at recipes and thinking about what I was going to eat the next day.
Probably not the smartest thing to do while fasting.
But I finished.
Wrapped up the juice cleanse and went to bed around 2 AM.
Day 4: The Day After
Final result:
I lost just under 12 pounds during the approximately 88-hour fast. Now obviously, I know all 12 pounds weren’t body fat. A lot of that was water weight and everything else your body dumps during a fast.
But the number wasn’t really the biggest surprise. The biggest surprise was how good I felt. I felt great. I proved to myself that I could do it.
I went into this expecting three days of misery. Instead, it completely changed my outlook on juicing, fasting, and cleanses.
And now, two weeks later, I’m still surprised that not only did I finish it…
I actually want to do it again.
This will absolutely become part of my monthly health routine. Never thought I’d say that when I was staring down that first celery juice.
But here we are.
